Have you heard of the gut/skin axis? Studies show a correlation in communication between gut and skin health commonly called the gut/skin axis, in fact, think of the skin as a canvas that reflects the internal health of a person. How we nourish our body and gut can directly effect the health of our largest organ, the skin!

How does this work?

The microbiome (the gut) is the key regulator for our immune system aiming to keep homeostatis by communicating with tissues and organs in a bidirectional manner. Imbalance in the skin and/or gut microbiome is associated with an altered immune response which can promote and develop unhealthy, dull, acne prone, and a host of skin issues.

This skin is our largest organ barrier and protector for the entire human body so it’s very important to keep it strong and healthy not to mention if you want to keep that glow girl!

In this nourishing soup, key ingredients included can help strengthen the gut, target good skin health, promote good immunity, and nourish the body as a whole.

Let’s dive in!

-Bone Broth-Bone broth is rich in nutrients that the body can easily absorb  including 19 essential and non essential which are easily utilized as building blocks for proteins on the body!

*Collagen and gelatin specifically are big gut and skin nourishing heros present in bone broth that actually can strengthen the gut lining, decreasing inflammation and acne from the inside out.

*Minerals + electrolytes like calcium , magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulphur, and more are also found in bone broth!

*Glycosaminoglycans-supportive for digestive health which help restore the intestinal lining

*Glucosamine- 2 forms (hydrochloride and sulfate) which help support joint health

*Hyaluronic- support  skin  and promotes healthy aging, cell rejuvenation and skin firmness.

Bone broth truly is healing and healthy to rotate into the diet!

-Tumeric- (Curcuma Longa), a powerful antioxidant, is one of the the star ingredients in this soup since it offers so many health benefits. Studies suggest that tumeric can help lower inflammation in the body, fight disease or infection, aid in digestive issues, improves skin, aids in heart health, good for brain health, and aids in diabetes management. Tumeric’s anti-inflammatory components can truly help provide the glow and healthy luster to the skin.

-Carrots - a great source of beta carotene which converts to vitamin A inside the body, phenolic acids, and vitamin C can all support skin tissue repair, skin texture, skin protection, and overall healthy skin tone not to mention carrots are just darn healthy to keep in our dietary rotation.

-Butternut Squash - similar to carrots, butternut squash is packed with vitamin A and vitamin C which help build and maintain collagen providing structure for the skin. The elevated antioxidant content in butternut squash like carrots in this soup is a double boost for good gut and skin health for sure!

-Roasted Garlic in this recipe offers great prebiotic support for good gut health and the natural flavor it adds is so yum! Garlic also helps kill any over growth of candida (yeast) in the gut which can often cause acne, gut bloat, and constipation.

-Ginger- Ginger is another powerful antioxidant superfood! Ginger is known for gut health and healing properties but since the gut/skin axis are so closely in communication, ginger plays a key role in our skin health providing anti-aging benefits and restoration for the skin through flushing out toxins, supporting blood flow, plus evening out skin tone.
